About the Item

'Lucille (1940s Female Bust Fashion Rendition)' is an original drawing by Jorge Ruiz-Martinez. The artist works in a pared-down style with a nod to Art Deco fashion images while nevertheless maintaining the characteristics of the era he is representing. Art Deco architecture and graphic design took hold in the United States and Europe during the first part of the 20th century and came to be the iconic style of the metropolis and modernity. While recalling the aesthetic of Art Deco, Ruiz-Martinez's drawings are more stylized and simplified than the detailed and lush fashion images of the Art Deco era. This example is of course an ode to the American actress, comedian, and icon Lucille Ball, star of the sitcom 'I Love Lucy'. Charcoal pencil on Canson Classic Cream drawing paper 24 x 18 inches, artwork 27 x 21 inches, frame Signed and dated lower center. Title, medium, artist, date and signature on reverse of paper. Presented in a black finish wood frame provided by the artist. Artist Bio: Jorge Ruiz-Martinez is a Cuban-born artist. He received training in architecture, engineering and the visual arts. He began his career in the furniture industry in Europe and developed a passion for design. The artist has a strong interest in fashion and a desire to bring social issues to life.
